Hi, I'm Tom Ham
The bit about me...
My father in law gave the best description of my job “Tom, it must be wonderful to be the person that gets to tell people they can retire or buy the thing they’ve always wanted!” He’s right, it is. As a financial planner I’m privileged to work closely with clients on realising their hopes and aspirations. The technical work on investment, pension, estate planning and the like is rewarding in its own right; but the pleasure of seeing a client live their life unencumbered by “what if?” is the greatest joy.
Naturally curious I was the child that always asked why? Those that know me will attest that the trait has continued into adulthood. A dispassionate consigliere I’ll tell you when something is a bad idea as well as encourage the good habits.
Although this site is my own, I am a Senior Financial Planner with Aberdein Considine & Co (www.acandco.com). I am authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA); more on that in the disclosure section.
Alongside my day job I am a reconnaissance soldier with the Scottish & North Irish Yeomanry. Another role in which natural curiosity is an asset.
I’m a husband, adopted father to a moderately well-behaved lab called Lovat, and like him, can’t sit still. My wife Lucy is a brilliant medical Dr and researcher. Together we live in Edinburgh although originally, I’m from Yorkshire. When we’ve a moment spare, we like to travel or spend time at Lucy’s family farm in Perthshire.
